Helping with Dental Anxiety because We Understand & Care!
We understand that for many people, dental fear and anxiety can be a major obstacle to getting access to essential dental treatment. Sedation dentistry allows patients who might otherwise avoid seeing the dentist, receive preventative dentistry services in TX that will allow a healthier mouth.
Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide sedation, also known as “laughing gas” is commonly used in the dental office to make treatment more comfortable for the patient. This sedation dentistry works in San Antonio, TX by inhaling the gas through a mask and allowing you to breathe in the medication that induces a state of relaxation. After several minutes of nitrous sedation on board, local anesthesia will then be administered combined with nitrous oxide and Dentalvibe to minimize pain. For this type of sedation dentistry, the sedative effects go away immediately after turning off the gas. Patients can drive home shortly thereafter.
Oral Sedatives
This medication is usually given 45 minutes to one hour before a dental appointment. Oral sedatives have the benefit of offering amnesia (forgetfulness) and drowsiness to minimize the memory of the dental procedure. Local anesthesia will still be administered combined with Dentalvibe to minimize pain. Many times patients feel that the appointment took less time. The benefits of oral sedation vary from patient to patient. Naturally, for this type of sedation dentistry, you must bring a responsible adult or escort who can drive.
IV Sedation Dentistry
This is the highest level of conscious sedation available. An IV is placed in the arm or wrist, allowing the administration of strong sedatives in a controlled manner to achieve a more ideal state of sedation. The patient will remain responsive, but will likely not remember most of the procedure. This level of sedation dentistry is typically done in our surgical suite and is reserved for difficult or complex surgeries or cases of extreme dental anxiety. Naturally, for this type of sedation, you must bring a responsible adult or escort who can drive. Please let our receptionist know at the time of scheduling if you are interested in this type of sedation dentistry in San Antonio, Texas.
